George S. Smailes Jr., 87, died on Friday May 13, 2005 at the Dwelling Place at Saint Clares Hospital, Dover, NJ.
Mr. Smailes was born in Dickson City, PA and lived 46 years in Denville, NJ. Mr. Smailes served in The United States Navy for 20 years and is a veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He was employed as a Kinectic Engineer for the US Navy and Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, NJ as the Chief Engineer at the power house for 21 years retiring in 1979. He was a member of VFW Post 2519 of Denville, NJ, the Denville Senior Citizens and a member of the Union Hill Presbyterian Church Denville, NJ.
His wife Millicent (nee Abbott) Smailes of 63 years married survives Mr. Smailes, he is the father of George E. Smailes and the Grandfather of Emily A. Jaguello and Chloe C. Smailes and the brother of Alice Roberts of Brattville, AL.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com on Friday May 20th at 11:00a.m. Interment service will be held on Monday May 23rd at 1:00p.m. At Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday May 19th from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to Union Hill Presbyterian Church 427 Franklin Rd., Denville, NJ 07834 would be appreciated.
