William J. Houlihan passed awayin Hillsborough, NJon August 9, 2008,he was 78 years old.
Born in South Amboy he had lived in Mountain Lakes for 42 years before moving to Hillsborough, NJ 3 years ago.
William completed his undergraduate work at Seton Hall University, and then received hisdoctorate in organic chemistry from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He worked as amedicinal chemist for Sandoz in East Hanover, NJ for 30 years before retiring in 1992. He then received aDana ResearchInstitute For Scientists Emeriti (RISE)fellowshipat Drew Universityperforming research and teaching from 1992 to 2004. William was a long time member of the American Chemical Society,his scientific contributions included 103 scientific publications, 233 US Patents and 5 books.
He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Piroska Maria Houlihan in 2005.
Surviving are his children Peter Houlihan of Sunderland, MA, Michael Houlihan and his wife, Iris, of Hillsborough, NJ, and Aniko Baglaneas Eves and her husband, James Eves, of Rockport, MA.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Nora Houlihan Gallo, Ryan, Torin and Erin Houlihan, Yianni, Marisa and Dimitri Baglaneas, and James and Maggie Eves.
TheFuneralwill be conductedfromthe Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ www.normandean,com on Thursday August 14, at9:00 AM,a Liturgy of Christian Burialwill be heldat St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mt. Lakes, NJ at10:00 AM.Relatives and friendswill be received at the funeral home on WednesdayAugust 13from 6-8PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or similar organizations.
