Community Leader, Active Volunteer
A life well lived came to a close on Sunday, March 6, 2005 with the passing of Michael L. Healey, 81, of Randolph. A resident of Denville until 2002, Mr. Healey was a community leader and active Volunteer for over a half a century. His passing comes after an eight-year battle with prostate Cancer.
In recognition of his long time volunteerism, Mr. Healey was honored by the Morris County Office of Aging in 2000 as one of their Living Treasurers of Morris County.
Many of those volunteer activities took place working along side his wife Claire, who passed away in August 2000. Both Michael Healey and his wife were active in the founding of Saint Clares Hospital in 1953. Mr. Healey helped organize its first ambulance corps, building on his experience as a US Navy medic serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
Among his other activities , Michael Healey was a past grand knight of Our Lady of the Lakes Knights of Columbus Council #3359 in Denville, helping to build the Councils former home in 1959-60. He was also a past president and a founder of the St. Marys School Home and School Association, the Lakeland Traffic Association, The North Jersey Health Facilities Planning Council and Treasurer of Denville Historical Society from 1990-1999. Most recently he was active in the Committee for the Preservation of the Knuth Farm in Denville, whose work resulted in a substantial NJ Green Acres grant. He also served St. Marys Parish in a number of activities, through its parish advisory committee, as a lector and in many other capabilities on behalf of St. Marys School, from which his three children all graduated.
Beloved husband of the late Claire R. Healey. Father of Lauren Turi of Randolph, William R. Healey of Raritan Twp., and Mark of White Twp. Grandfather of Michelle, Steven, and Angela Turi, Matthew, Lara, and Victoria Healey and Michael Nicholas Healey. Brother of Neil Healey of Port Jefferson, LI, NY.
Funeral from the Norman Dean Home For Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com on Friday March 11th at 8:30a.m. For a 10:00A.M. Liturgy of Christian Burial service at Resurrection Parish Millbrook Avenue, Randolph, NJ. Interment Denville Cemetery. Friends will be received Thursday March 10th 2-4 & 7-9p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Healey asked that donations be made to the Resurrection Parish Development Fund, 651 Millbrook Avenue, Randolph, NJ 07869.
