Obituary of Jewell Maria Sweeney

Jewell Sweeney passed away at Franciscan Oaks in Denville, NJ on March 16, 2013. She was 87 years old. Born in Newark, she had lived most of her life in Astoria, NY before moving to Denville, NJ 7 years ago. Jewell worked as a clerical supervisor for MetLife Insurance Company in Manhattan, NY for 49+ years before retiring in 1992. She was an avid card player and liked to play Bridge with her friends at Franciscan Oaks. She also did a lot of volunteer work over the years while living in Astoria, NY. Jewell was predeceased by her husband John Sweeney in 2003. She is survived by her sister Gloria Canup, her cousins Patricia and her husband Jack Carr, Robert and his wife Elizabeth Madara and James Phillips. She is also survived by her sister in-law Elizabeth DiSimone, and her Niece Patricia Sweatman, her nephew Thomas and his wife Donna Strickland and many other nieces & Nephews. Visitation will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 on Tuesday March 19, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9PM. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 9AM on Wednesday March 20, and then going to St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Mt. Lakes, NJ for a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial.
