William R. Hill Jr., 73 died on Wednesday August 4th at the Tally Ho Manor at Boonton Township, NJ.
Mr. Hill Jr. was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in West Orange, NJ and has been a resident of Rockaway Township, NJ for the last 44 years. He was a graduate of West Orange High School in 1949, and married his high school sweetheart Sandra White in June of 1951. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He graduated in 1958 from the South Dakota School of Mines with a BS in Electrical Engineering. After 35 years of service he retired in 1993 from Public Service Electric & Gas Co., Newark, NJ. He was a member of the Shade Tree Commission, served as a councilman for Rockaway Twp. from 1968 and 1969, member of the Rockaway Twp. Board of Education from 1970 thru 1973, taught Hunter Education for the State of New Jersey, was a Boy Scout leader, Past Master of the Jephthah Masonic Lodge, Rockaway, NJ, Past
President of Field Music Salaam Temple Shiners, Livingston, NJ, member of the VFW and American Legion both in Rockaway, NJ. He was an Elder and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway, NJ
Mr. Hill Jr. is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra; daughter Karen Van Orden of Hamburg and her husband Lee; son William Hill of Mountain Lakes and his wife Kim; grandfather of Jesse, Michael, and Kevin Van Orden and Jared Hill. His two sisters Barbara Benn of Toms River and Phyllis Bailey of Dover survive him.
Memorial services at First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway 35 Church St., Rockaway, NJ on Saturday August 14th at 10:00a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Church would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements handled thru Norman Dean Home for Services, Denville, NJ.
