Obituary of Robert Pershing Schoner

Robert Pershing Schoner, 86, died on Thursday Oct. 30, 2003 at the Morris View Nursing Home, Morris Township, NJ after a long battle with Alzheimers and Parkinsons Disease. He was born in Newark, NJ, the son of the late George and Anna (Nee Hahn) Schoner.
Mr. Schoner was raised living between Newark and Indian Lake section of Denville. While at Indian Lake, his passion for boating, swimming, and fishing gave him many hours of enjoyment.
Mr. Schoner retired from Jersey Central Power & Light Co of Dover, NJ in 1979, after 32 years of service, constructing some of the largest electrical power transmission lines and sub-stations in the region. Mr. Schoner spent his retirement years enjoying the game of golf with friends and traveled extensively. He was a member of the Indian Lake Community Club, The Power Squadron, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Denville Senior Citizens and Peace Pipe Country Club.
A decorated US Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Schoner was part of the initial occupation force in Japan. He proudly served aboard the USS Piedmont. His remains will be interred at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Pauline his wife of 62 years, a daughter Nancy Vayda and three sons, Robert, David, and James survive him. He had six grandchildren; Scott, Michele Wolfe, Davina, Jessica, Carly, and Eric. Four Great Grandchildren include Zachery, Richard, and Travis, and Maria Wolfe.
