Ate Luring Mallari is the wife of my cousin Gene Mallari. When I first set foot to the US in June of 1972, they welcomed me warmly. I stayed with them until I could get settled on my own.
They introduced me to their friends, they took me around to see the city, the shopping centers, the place to take the bus to get to various places, etc. It was a fast-learning experience for a new immigrant to the USA.
Until I can get a place of my own Ate Luring is very supportive and understanding of my fears and loneliness as a recent immigrant and she, and my cousin, tried their very best to make me feel at home and to adjust to a new way of life.
Fast forward to today, my cousin has passed away, and I still get in touch on a frequent basis with Ate Luring, through cards, text and telephone. We still see each other on occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. We still exchange Christmas cards and birthday cards.
I met Ate Luring when my cousin was dating her. My cousin is truly in love with Ate Luring, and he was quite sure she is the woman of his life and destined to marry. It was a blissful and happy relationship. Now, sadly, Ate Luring has joined her beloved husband in the great beyond, in heaven.
I will never forget Ate Luring’s kindness, thoughtfulness, help, support when I was starting out on my challenging journey of a new way of life in the USA. Her ever-ready smile on her face is very comforting when loneliness sets in. She is a wonderful person through and through.
Thank you for all that you have done for me. Those good memories will linger with me for a long time. I thank Ate Luring (and Kuya Naring) for that.
May the soul of Lorenza Bautista Mallari Rest-in-Peace.

Q: How did you meet Lorenza?
A: I met Ma when I started dating her son Ed. My favorite experience was when she taught me how to make lumpia. Loved the experience with her. She was so patient.
