Obituary of Eleanor Hoeflinger

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eleanor Hoeflinger, a beloved matriarch and pillar of strength, passed away peacefully at the age of 100 on December 14, 2024. She was born to Charles and Catherine Steinert on February 8, 1924, in Mount Vernon, New York. Eleanor lived a life full of love, kindness, and devotion, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Eleanor’s journey began in Mount Vernon, where she worked as a telephone operator. One summer while working at Sunny Hill Farms in Greenville, New York, she met the love of her life, Raymond Hoeflinger. Together they began their family in Brooklyn before moving to West Caldwell to raise their children. As a devoted mother, Eleanor cherished her family above all. While maintaining a home in West Caldwell, as well as a summer home in Wolf Lake, she managed a full time job at Bamburgers, while raising 6 daughters. After retiring to their lake home, Raymond and Eleanor made the move to Denville, New Jersey, where a warm and welcoming home for their loved ones was created.

Eleanor was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Nile, a women’s organization connected to the Shriner's Society, and she devoted many hours to volunteering at St. Mary’s Church in Denville. Among her many acts of service, Eleanor lovingly crafted rosary beads to send to troops overseas, a testament to her generous and giving spirit. A devout Catholic, Eleanor held her faith close to her heart throughout her life. Her love for her family and her strong faith were the foundation of everything she did. At the end of each day, Eleanor found joy in the simple pleasures of life—cooking exciting recipes and enjoying a glass of wine with her dinner and her family. She always made sure to end each dinner with a delicious dessert. Her warmth, laughter, and love for life will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

And though her passing brings us sadness, we take comfort in knowing that she is reunited in Heaven with those who passed before her; her beloved husband, Raymond Hoeflinger, and her daughters, Veronica Fiorino and Margaret Parsons. Her memory now lives on through her surviving family members, her daughters; Janet Tischler and her husband Allen, Patricia Harris, Cathy Pizzano and her husband John, Dorothy Hoeflinger; her grandchildren, Christopher Tischler and his wife Kristen, Mark Tischler and Jenn Hisko, Justin Tischler and Jennifer Lavelle, Colleen Harris, Erica Scott and her husband Justin, Sean Harris and his wife Christina, Kyle Harris, Keith Parson, Victoria Parsons, Kelly der Kinderen and her husband Eric, as well as numerous great grandchildren and friends that will remember her fondly.

If you would like to contribute to Eleanor’s memory in your own way, please consider making a charitable contribution to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital; an organization that Eleanor herself spent countless hours volunteering for. Memorial Donations can be made via inmemof.org.

Hours of public visitation for Eleanor are scheduled for Sunday, December 22 nd , from 12 to 4 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 23 rd , at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church of Denville, followed by a graveside service at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.

Eleanor’s memory will forever remain a beacon of love, kindness, and faith, and she will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to call her family or friend.
