Obituary of Anna Koenig

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anna Koenig, a beloved wife, mother, aunt, caregiver, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, at the Oaks Healthcare Center in Denville, NJ. She had shared 97 years of love, laughter, selflessness, and wisdom with friends and family.

Born in Yugoslavia on July 14, 1927 to the late Maria and Adam Pohl, Anna came to the United States at the age of 27, settling in South Jersey with her family. In 1955, she moved to New York where she began her work as a dedicated caregiver. Her life took another turn in 1968 when she moved to Denville, New Jersey, to help the Sisters manage the farm and life at the St. Francis Residential Community. She remained at St. Francis until it closed in 2022, leaving behind precious memories, including those of raising her son, Peter, within the estate.

A private woman who valued simplicity, Anna’s home was always immaculate, and she took great pride in her cooking, especially her famous Sauerbraten and tomatoes, which were loved by all who had the pleasure of tasting them. She was a devoted member of the Denville Senior Citizens and was known for her hard work and extreme kindness.

Anna's loving nature and dedication to family were at the heart of everything she did. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Anna’s memory is kept alive by those she leaves behind; her daughter in law, Cathy Koenig (the late Peter), her nieces and nephews, Werner Kalatschan (Margret Johannsdottir), Margaret Kalatschan, Robert (Cherieann Damico) Kalatschan, as well as other family members in Europe, including William and Rose Marie and many dear extended family and friends. She is now reunited in heaven with those who passed before her; her beloved husband, Peter Koenig, her son, Peter F. Koenig, her parents, and her 7 siblings.
