Obituary of George Robert Haas

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George Robert Haas passed away peacefully, in Morristown, New Jersey, on Sunday August 4th, 2024. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many.

George was born to the late Jacob and Helen Haas and raised in Newark, NJ, and was later drafted into the Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War. He served his time and was honorably discharged in 1956.  After returning from Korea, George joined the Newark Police Department in 1957.  Soon afterward he met the love of his life Ruthie and became happily married for nearly 60 years.  George and Ruth started the family they always knew they wanted in Newark NJ and then settled into Rockaway Boro in 1969, where they raised one son, Robert and three daughters, Carole, Diane and Karyn.  George was a loyal law enforcement officer in Newark NJ and ended up retiring as a lieutenant in 1992 after 35 years of service.

When George was not working or spending time with family, he enjoyed time outside meticulously maintaining his yard, growing his famous Haas tomatoes, spending time at the New Jersey shore, and fishing in the ocean.  He loved following the local sports teams which included the Devils, Mets, and Giants.

George was a one-of-a-kind gentleman.  Nothing meant more to him than his family and friends.  His legacy will live on through his family for generations to come. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Ruth, his parents, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Virginia Haas.

He leaves only happy memories to his adored children:  Robert (Caryn) Haas, Carole Bixler, Diane Shaw, and Karyn (David) Christiansen; his cherished grandchildren Glenn (Coline) Kukan, Shannon (Tim) Gott, Kevin (Sarah) Kukan, Eric (Tracy) Haas, Keith Kukan, Nikki (Michael) Avino, Shane (Nicole) Kukan, Ryan Kukan, Casey Shaw, Steven Haas, Christie Shaw, Taylor Christiansen, and Jon Christiansen, along with nine precious great grand-children. He will be forever missed.

A graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 8th, 2024, at 12:00PM at Denville Cemetery, Denville NJ.
