Obituary of Harry H. Dachisen
Harry H. Dachisen passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in Denville. He spent his 82 years making the world a better place, spreading love and joy and creating everlasting memories.
Born and raised in Denville by the late Doris Fishinger Dachisen and Peter A. Dachisen, Sr., Harry was the oldest of seven children to bless the Dachisen household. He was a remarkable person, even when young. As the oldest child, Harry went above and beyond to help care for his younger siblings and he remained a guiding light even after he left home. As a teenager, Harry attended a CYO dance that changed his life. Across the gym floor he spied a beautiful young woman, his soulmate and future wife, Silvia Ann Corvi. After graduating from Morris Hills High School, Harry earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Rutgers University. Harry and Silvia wed on June 13, 1964 and the happy couple settled in Rockaway Township to raise their children. Harry always worked hard to support his family and was employed with National Life Group Insurance as an agent for many years. After retirement, Harry worked for 17 years at St. Peter’s Orphanage in Denville as a Mentor, continuing his calling to offer wisdom and support to young people.
A devout Catholic, Harry served as Deacon since 1989 at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Rockaway. Being a Deacon allowed Harry to be part of life events for friends and family members alike; he officiated weddings, baptized his grandchildren, and offered solace to many. Harry practiced his faith through good works, and led a group every month to Eva’s Village in Paterson to feed and care for those in need. Both Harry and Silvia were members of the Light of the Christ prayer group and daily communicants. They rejoiced in the love and light of Jesus Christ, every day proudly serving God, family, and community.
Harry was smart, funny, and wise beyond his years. He was also very strong. By the time Harry was in his 30’s he had achieved his black belt in karate and was a talented power lifter, holding state records for his age group in competitions. He was an avid fisherman in both salt and fresh water. The Dachisen family took annual vacations at the beach, sometimes for an entire month, because it was Silvia’s favorite place in the whole world. Harry’s guilty pleasure was SPORTS! He was a committed fan to the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Giants, Rangers and Knicks, and was always eager to discuss the latest draft and trade options with his grandsons.
Harry was a one-of-a-kind gentleman; he will be forever missed. His legacy will live on through his family for generations to come. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Silvia, his parents, and his sisters, Joan and Linda.
He leaves only happy memories to his adored children, Andrew (Megan Coakley) Dachisen of Denville, Milissa Dachisen of Roxbury, Michele (Jeff) Stone of Roxbury, and Jennifer (Sean) Coakley of Cranford; his cherished grandchildren, Conor, Owen, Aidan, Caleb, and Luke Dachisen, Matthew and Kevin Stone, and Maeve, Colin, and Keira Coakley; his loving siblings, Peter A. (Sharon) Dachisen, Jr., Christopher (Lynn) Dachisen, MaryBeth (Geoffrey) Dean, and Helen (Zachary) Kamen; his caring brother-in-law, Charlie Bravo; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and parishioners.
Public Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9th from 4 – 8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 10th at 10 am at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Roman Catholic Church, 154 Mt Pleasant Ave, Dover, NJ 07801. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Boonton. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Harry’s memory to Eva’s Village by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation.
