I have known Miklos (Micu) my entire life.
He’s been known by the following names: Miklos, Micu, Micukam, Fiam, Somogyi, Mike, Mr. Kathy, Papa, Nagypapa, Dedapa
He was an energetic, mischievous youngster. His elementary teacher considered him an angel, but at home he was a little devil.
Sports were always front & center in his life. Initially soccer was his favorite, and then he became a dedicated hockey enthusiast. Despite the many years of ‘rebuilding’, he remained a loyal Ranger fan to the end. However, he acknowledge when they sucked.
In his early years, Micu was a bit of a Don Juan. But once he met Kathy, she became his focus and subsequently she and their expanding family became the center of his universe. Their main objective was to have a happy close-knit harmonious family. This they successfully accomplished. Since Micu considered a close-knit family to be the most natural thing, he didn’t feel that this was an achievement.
Micu was a laid back, easygoing, social guy with a good sense of humor who didn’t take life too seriously. He loved to have fun and enjoy his life. Of course, this also meant that he made sure to stay away from the kitchen. I believe boiling a pot of tea was the extent of his culinary expertise.
He accumulated many friends, and was an active proud member of the ILC community.
He stubbornly stuck to his ideas and opinions and if you disagreed you were obviously wrong. He also enjoyed provoking folks for the sake of a good conversation.
He was a real gentleman from the old days & ways who believed in hard work, decency, fairness, and the constitution of the USA.
Micu was a bit of a picky eater, believed that Hungarian food is the best and of course everything must have a sauce, whether it’s supposed to or not.
I will certainly miss him, will miss our talks, our laughs, and even our occasional arguments.
He had a favorite phrase which he frequently voiced “Nice country America, let’s stay a while”. ……and he did ...
Micu, good luck on your journey wherever it leads.

Indian lake will never be the same. The twinkle in your eye lives on. So many memories. Cheers to a great man and uncle! One of a kind, a blend of love, challenge, laughter and Johnny walker black.

From "salmonella candles" to "don't go sniffing any crotches" - he was one of a kind.
I'm so blessed to have had him as part of my life. He will truly be missed, but gets to now spend time with Mookie as well as old family and friends. My guess is that he has had a least a few scotches with a splash of water since he arrived. :)
