Obituary of Susan I. Liebman

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On October 12, 2023, Susan Liebman of Parsippany, NJ passed away at age 79. Born February 17, 1944, to Ford and Loretta (Malloy) Howland, the family belonged to Lake Arrowhead in Denville NJ. She attended Morris-Hills High School (class of 1962) before beginning a long tenure at Bell Laboratories Inc. in Whippany, NJ, beginning in the mail room, and then working in their research and development library as a line manager. She loved helping the engineers find the information, resources, books, translations, and reports they needed. Google didn’t exist, so she and her staff were the start in the hunt for information. She was proud to support Bell Labs’ research facilities, which produced scientific and engineering innovations.

Known as Susie to her family, and Sue to many friends and colleagues, Sue was an enthusiastic world traveler, visiting such places as Africa, England, Egypt, and Hong Kong to name a few of her favorites, but was always content to return home. In addition to being an avid reader and lover of nature, Sue found great joy in nurturing her garden and working at her daughter’s school, where she began as an assistant to swimming lessons and later became the librarian, conducting story times for the younger children. Her warm sprint and gentle soul were a source of support and compassion for her many loved ones. As a lover of animals, she became a vegetarian as an adult, supportive of many animal charities, and was a devoted caretaker to many rescue dogs over the years.

Sue was the loving mother of Robin Liebman and the beloved wife of Lawrence Drooks. She was predeceased by her sister Constance and brother-in-law Jerald Logan, and is survived by her brother Robert Howland and his wife Sue, her sister Nancy and her husband Gregory Gaudin, as well as several loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and close friends.

If you would like to contribute to Susan’s legacy of kindness and compassion in your own way, please consider making a charitable contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to your local animal shelter. Memorial donations for the Alzheimer’s Association can be made via inmemof.org.

Hours of Memorial Visitation for Susan are scheduled for Saturday, October 28th from 9 to 11 AM, with a vigil service to be held at 10:30 AM at Norman Dean Home for Services. An interment service will be held privately immediately following visitation.
