Obituary of Marcelle L. Anderson
Marcelle L. Anderson passed away peacefully on Sunday October 8, 2023 at The Oaks Healthcare Center in Denville. She shared 98 years of love, laughter and unforgettable memories with her family and friends.
Born and raised in Liege, Belgium, to the late Felicien and Julia Dans, she was the second of two daughters to bless their household. At age of 19, Marcelle met a guardian angel by the name of Andrew Schleupner, an American soldier, who brought her and her family to safety during WWII. They married and she returned to America with him where they began a beautiful life together and had two children. Unfortunately, their love did not last. She then married Elliott Monroe Anderson in 1966 and they lived happily until his passing in 2005. Marcelle enthusiastically embraced American culture, yet always remained distinctively “French” in behaviors, mannerisms, and lifestyle.
Marcelle was a free spirit. She enjoyed all that the world has to offer and lived with the chic elegance that is often described as “la vie en rose.” She had a passion for travel and often returned home to Belgium, yet her favorite city was Paris, with Barbados close second. Her family from Belgium recently came to celebrate her last birthday with her- a testament to the type of impact she made to all that knew her. No matter where she was living or visiting, Marcelle treated every living thing with kindness. The animals inside and outside her home were extremely grateful for her generosity. Not only did she feed the birds and the deer, but she even had a resident groundhog.
Marcelle was always the life of the party. She loved “happy hours”, the casino, and Ocean City, New Jersey, where she would summer with her family. She truly lived every day to its fullest and did what most people dream of: she lived a life with no regrets. Marcelle accomplished this with love, respect and impeccable manners, all while remaining true to her authentic self. She will be remembered as an incredibly well dressed woman, as she followed the trends of such designers as Chanel and Dior well into her elder years.
Her life’s stories provide her family with countless hours of entertainment and retellings. Marcelle’s greatest treasure was her children, her "fabulous" grandchildren and great grandchildren, about whom she endlessly boasted.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those children, Andy Schleupner and his wife Judy and Jean Cosentino and her husband Paul, her cherished grandchildren, Paul Cosentino and his wife Rebecca and Joelle Cosentino, her treasured great grandchildren, Madeline, Paul, Amanda, Jake and Barlowe Cosentino, her dear nephews and extended family in Belgium and in the US.
Public Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16th from 5 - 7 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 17th at 10 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Memorial Donations are being accepted by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation to either Wounded Warriors or 11th Hour Rescue.
