My best memory of my friend Frank is also my first memory of Frank.
In 1960, on the first day of my freshman year at Morris Catholic High School, I was standing alone outside the entrance to the school. Alone in a sea of strangers. I literally knew no one.
I was baffled as I watched all these new classmates greeting one another by their first names, telling one another how happy they were to see them, while talking about their summertime adventures. Being an awkward and introverted kid from a rural elementary school in Randolph Township, it didn’t occur to me at the time that all these kids had gone to class together in different grade schools throughout Morris County.
I never felt so alone.
Then out of nowhere an open hand was thrust toward me and a husky and friendly voice said “Hi, I’m Frank. What’s your name?”
I was stunned, but, instinctively I grabbed that hand and felt a firm handshake in return. Frank then told me with a smile that I looked like I was lost.
I don’t remember what I said in return, but he put his hand on my shoulder and told me to come with him so that I could meet a few people.
I could not believe my good fortune.
And so began a friendship that has stood the test of time.
I feel truly blessed for our friendship, and I will always feel gratitude and love for Frank.

Over the past 20 years or so, five of us, Class of 64, formed what we called “The Pack”. We met for First Friday’s followed by breakfast at the diner and often gathered for dinners or a simple get together at our homes. It was especially great when our fifth member Harold visited from Texas.
The Pack; Tom, Ralph, Harold, Chris over the past few years became a very important support group for Frank and Pam as his physical challenges mounted. Frank earned the care and love of this band of brothers over his lifetime. A very small return of his investment of friendship and loyalty. Until we meet again.

A long time ago, 1955 to be exact, I made new friends, some, I never realized, would be friends forever. Francis, soon to be Frank Razzano, was one of those new friends who I continued to share many good memories with.
Grammar school days at St Mary’s in Wharton were certainly formative and memorable, but what happened next was a memory that lasted forever. High school days at Morris Catholic High School.
Franks friendship was shared with everyone but I could always count on him as a genuine old friend through the social and academic drama that high school offered. That is just the way Frank was.
After graduation we went separate ways but always in touch and when we could, enjoyed good times together. One summer we both worked for Ray Sharp the Town of Dover Engineer, . That was a trip for sure and we always laughed about those times.
Challenged by college and most importantly spared from the political turmoil of the 60’s and early 70’s we moved into the next phase of our lives.
Frank was in our wedding party, witnessed the birth of our children and always joined gatherings for family holiday parties. He quickly became Uncle Frank to our children as he spent much quality time with us.
Frank’s quest for knowledge, and absorbing as much as possible, was always very evident. If he didn’t know the truth, then and there, he found it out and shared the next time we met. I can’t think of a topic that he wasn’t well versed at.
Life didn’t always treat Frank very well and over the past couple of years I got to return the favor of a dear friendship to the only brother that each of us had. Rest in peace Frankie.

I am sorry for the loss of Frank, our friend and classmate. My high school memories are of a handsome, smiling Frank, always with a hello, funny greeting or kind thought. He was a genuine friend to all, well-liked by everyone. I did not see him often through the years, mostly at class reunions, or news through mutual friends...thank you Pat and Chris. However, seeing him, when I did, meant a warm greeting, picking up right where we left off, no matter the years. I am grateful for his friendship.
