Obituary of Beth B. Hess Ph.D.

Beth B. Hess, Ph.D. 74, Died on Thursday April 17, 2003 at her home in Rockaway Twp., NJ.
She was born in Buffalo, NY, and moved to NJ in 1953 upon marring Richard Hess.
She Graduated from Radcliffe College Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Government and Later received a Masters in Sociology from Rutgers College in 1966. She continued her education receiving her Ph.D. in Sociology in 1971 also from Rutgers.
Dr. Hess was a Professor in Sociology at County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ from 1969 to 1997.
She wrote and edited many books in the field of Sociology and Gerontology with other noted Sociologists Matilda Riley, Elizabeth Markson, Myra Marx Ferree, and Peter Stein. She also contributed articles to the N. Y. Times in the editorial pages.
She served on the board and was past President of Sociologists for Women in Society (S.W.S.), The Eastern Sociology Society, The Association for Humanist Sociology Board, Behavioral and Social Sciences Section, GSA. And the Society for the Study of Social Problems.
Her husband Richard C. Hess died on December 25, 1986.
She is survived by her son Larry Hess, daughter Emily F. and son in-law Gary Robinson. Her grandchildren, Gary Jr., Richard, and Amy Robinson all of Rockaway Twp. Her Mother Yetta Bowman of Denville, NJ.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday May 4, 2003 at 3:00 PM at Temple BNAI OR on Overlook Road Morristown, NJ.
