Obituary of Diane Kearns

Please share a memory of Diane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Diane Kearns passed away peacefully after a short and courageous battle with cancer on Friday, October 22, 2021. She was 70 years young.

Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to James Kearns and the late Betty (Hough) Kearns, she was one of five children, raised in Dover, New Jersey. Diane graduated from Morris Hills High School, Class of 1969. She had a very successful career working for Ricoh USA, Inc. as an OEM Administration Manager, where she retired in 2016.

Diane was a very talented embroidery artist, and anyone who knew her was gifted with her meticulous work. She was a member of the Embroiders’ Guild of America, where she shared her love and talent of needlework with her three local chapters, Morris, Skylands and Garden State. Diane was always willing to lend a helping hand -- picking out threads for a project, explaining a new stitch, or serving as president and/or treasurer for each of the chapters.  She also belonged to other local and statewide embroidery guilds including Friends of Counted Embroidery (FCE) and Sampler Makers.

Diane was a true pleasure to know, she was always optimistic, smiling, compassionate, and generous - a true friend to all. She had a photographic memory and quick wit. Always on the move, when Diane wasn’t working, crafting, or spending quality time with family and friends you could find her walking around Park Lakes in Rockaway, planning her next outing, or in the kitchen whipping up something delicious. Diane was also the keeper of the family tree, a self-taught genealogist, she cleaned out the cobwebs and brought the past to life. Above anything else, her family was her pride and joy. Diane was the greatest daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, confidant, and friend that anyone could ever ask for and more. She will be dearly missed and always treasured in our hearts.

She is survived by her father James; her siblings, David, Mark (Jean), and Lisa (James) Tobin; her sister-in-law, Carolyn; her nieces and nephews, Conor (Amanda), Haley, Kate, and Christine; her dear brand new, grand-nephew, Jacob; and many more extended family and friends. Pre-deceased by her mother Betty and brother Aaron.

All services will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced. Memorial Donations are being accepted in her memory to Breast Cancer Foundation by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, or share your favorite memory of Diane here to continue to celebrate the incredible life she endowed to us.
