I am just totally in shock. I grew up with Jimmy all through elemntary school, middle school, and high school. I have such fond memories of laughing as he "clowned around" in our 8th grade science class. I remember one time he even stood on his desk and sang American Pie to the whole class. I am so sad, my condolences to the entire family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Egan family during this sad time. Jimmy and I were good friends for awhile and tried to chat every so often as we got older. Jimmy always tried to make everyone feel better and be happy. When I was 14 yrs old and at a different school than him, I was in an accident and hospitalized. Jimmy made sure he came to visit me more than once at the hospital and always brought me something to make me feel better. Most of the memories from my adolescence revolve around growing up with Jimmy. From building tree houses to playing kick-the-can to winter sledding to playing wiffle ball to trick-or-treating to eating fresh vegetables from his family's garden to sleep-overs to soccer practice/games and everything in-between, Jimmy was the SPARK who brought the neighborhood together. On behalf of Bob & Blake, the three of us will never forget how Jimmy's imagination had no limits. I specifically remember one cold, rainy day in the fall of 1993 when our Frosh soccer team had practice. No one wanted to be on the field due to the weather, but coach told us to just hike up our sweat pants and get through it. Jim had a pair of his brother's (much larger) pants, but without missing a beat, he hiked them up so high that the waistband came over his head, and he was totally engulfed in the pants; he looked like a pair of legs running around on the field. It may have been small and unintentional, but that act made an otherwise situation FUN. Jimmy was always smiling, always happy, always a great FRIEND. My heart and prayers go out to the Egan family.

I don't know where to begin buddy. On the basketball courts with your brother John as our coach, driving in your jeep all the way to south Carolina for college, blakes after school at Valleyview, or to the Maklary's house while in High school. I guess what I'm trying to say is not only will I miss that true friend who could make you smile during the worst of times, but also the Jim I knew while having the best of times. Jim, we were buddies from the very beginning when true friendships are born. Of course I will forever miss you bro, but most important I will always remember my true friend, from the beginning till the end.

I first became friends with Jimmy when he was 18 and I was 20, through hanging out at the Maklary's house. I was friends with Justin Maklary and Jimmy was part of "The Crew," which included Matt Maklary. That summer I had my college buddy from Connecticut, Nick, visit for a weekend, and Jimmy ended up joining me as a host. This was the first experience that led me to consider Jimmy one of the best friends of my life. Not only was he a gracious and friendly host to my guest, but he was the best company I could've had. He had dinner with my family, and helped entertain not only Nick, but also a couple of girls from a neighboring town, one of whom became my girlfriend and the love of my young life. Jimmy made an amazing impression on everyone: my friend, my family, my girlfriend to be, and most of all me. I was so grateful to him for that weekend. During the next couple of years, I would see Jimmy and the rest of The Crew whenever I was home from college, and he even came to visit me at school in Boston when I was a senior. Though he was younger and less worldly than I, I looked up to Jimmy -literally and figuratively. However, it was the spring of 2000, just after he turned 21, and I had moved back home to Denville, when Jimmy Egan became one of my best friends. I was coming off the breakup with that same girlfriend, and feeling quite down about it, but Jimmy made it his personal quest to cheer me up, to show me a good time, to be a supportive confidant, to be my pal. I started teaching at Morris Catholic that fall, and I became a regular fixture at the Egan house. I came to love the entire Egan family, and was very sorry to witness Mr. Egan's passing last summer. Going back, however, from 2000 to 2005, Jimmy was often my closest friend. He liked to talk to me about his life. He liked to talk about anything and everything. Those of us who knew Jimmy will always remember that he REALLY LIKED TO TALK. Yet, as a mark of my friendship, I liked to listen to him. Jimmy and I went through the same life-changing problem together during those years, and I would gladly have taken on his suffering as well, if he could be spared from it. Eventually, Jimmy met his girlfriend, Emeri, whom I believe was the love of his life. He moved to Hoboken to be close to her, and lived with my brother, Michael, who came to admire Jimmy and treasure his friendship as much as I have. During the last two years, Jimmy and I had drifted apart, as friends often do when they live in different places and are busy pursuing careers and education. I missed him, but from time to time we'd catch up, and, as with any true friendship, we felt immediately reconnected. I personally lost touch with all of my close friends during the past year and a half. Then, about six weeks ago, I sent out a message to the seven closest friends I've had in my life. Jimmy was the first to reply. I was looking forward to rekindling our friendship when I contacted him three weeks ago after learning from my brother that Jimmy had been hospitalized. I too had been in the hospital with my own illness, but Jimmy lifted my spirits and assured me that we were both on the mend and ready to be healthy and happy again. I was so happy to still have him as a friend, and so excited to rekindle our friendship. Yet, I didn't realize the gravity of his illness, and as I was struggling to become healthy again, I was unaware that his health was failing him. It came as a shock when I learned Jimmy passed away on Monday. I was especially saddened because I believed we would soon be hanging out again.
I've missed you, Jimmy, and now I will miss you for the rest of my life. I love you, my friend, and I pray that you rest in peace. God Bless you. Goodnight, sweet Prince.
