George Henry Riedel, 82, died on Friday March 14, 2008 at Saint Clares Hospital, Denville, NJ. Mr. Riedel was born in Jersey City, was resident of North Bergen, and since 1955 was a resident of Rockaway Township, after his retirement he was a resident of New Port Richey, Pasco County, Fl, he returned to Rockaway Township, and was a resident at the Firemens Home in Boonton from 1996 to present. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Riedel was employed by Rockaway Township Grounds & Maintenance Dept. as a Maintenance Supervisor for 12 years retiring in 1987, prior he was a Tractor Trailer Driver. He was a member and Ex Chief of the Marcella Fire Co. #3, and was an Exempt Firemen, and was a member of the American Legion Post 344 of Rockaway Township, and a former member of American Legion Post 335, Hudson County, FL, and was an excellent cook. His wife Helen Riedel in 1986 predeceased him. Two daughters, Barbara K. Ranft and husband Don of Rockaway Borough, Joan Goble and husband Richard of Rockaway Borough, one son, George R. Riedel Jr. and wife Nancy of Rockaway Township, and eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren survive him. His funeral service will be conducted at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ, www.normandean.com, (please light a candle in memory of George on web site), on Wednesday March 19th at 11:00am. Interment Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received on Tuesday March 18th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Firemens Home 565 Lathrop Ave., Boonton, NJ 07005 would be appreciated.
