Margaret H. Benson died on Wednesday Dec. 18, 2002 at the St. Clares Hospital, Denville, NJ. She was 68 years old. Mrs. Benson was born in Bronx, NY and lived in Denville for the last 38 years.
Mrs. Benson was the Principal of Academy Street School (K-6) Dover, NJ from 1993 to the present. Mrs. Benson was the Vice-Principal, Academy Street School from Sept. 1991 through 1993. She was also a Teacher at the Academy Street School from Sept. 1974 through 1991. She also taught Reading and Math at the St. Marys School Denville prior to her career at Academy Street Scholl in Dover, NJ. Mrs. Benson was Educator of the Year of Dover Chamber of Commerce 1998. Mrs. Bensons memberships included NJPSA, New Jersey Principals/Supervisors Assoc., MCPSA, Morris County Principals/Supervisors Assoc., and President Dover Principals/Supervisors Assoc. Mrs. Benson was graduate of the Newark State College June 1973 received her Bachelor of Arts, in Elementary Education Major. Mrs. Benson received her Master of Education / Administration from William Paterson College Feb. 1988. Mrs. Benson had the following certifications, Elementary School Teacher in 1973 and Principal/ Supervisor in 1988.
Mrs. Benson is survived by her husband of 46 years Joshua S. Benson Sr. of Denville, NJ. Her children Virginia and her husband David Chanda of Long Valley, Joshua S. JR and his wife Jackie Benson of Blairstown, Susan and her husband Mike Chibidakis of Granada Hills, CA, Margaret and her husband Anthony of Chiodo of Long Valley, William and his wife Patty Benson of East Amwell, and Catherine and her husband Scott Leonard of Little Rock AK. Grandmother of David, Victoria, and James Chanda, Bryan Benson, Ryan and Maggie Chibidakis, Anthony Chiodo, and Andrew Leonard. Surviving are her sisters, Pat Serrano of Mendham, Barbara Polesir of Cherry Hill, Frances Suk of Bellport, NY, and her brother John Hills of Montclair.
Mrs. Benson will have on Saturday Dec. 21, at 9:30AM a Liturgy of Christian Burial Service at St. Marys Church Myers Ave., Denville, NJ. Interment Denville Cemetery, Denville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Margaret Benson Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o 8 Thompson Rd., Denville, NJ 07834 would be appreciated.
