VETERANS ADMINISTRATION

Honorably discharged Veterans may be entitled to certain benefits.  These can include an American Flag for the casket, an Honor Guard, a Veteran’s Marker (headstone) and in some cases, a Burial Benefit to be paid toward the cost of services.

Honorably Discharged Veterans and their spouses are also entitled to burial in a Veterans Cemetery at no cost.  New Jersey Veterans typically choose Arlington National Cemetery, or Brigadier General William C. Doyle Cemetery in Wrightstown which is run by the State of New Jersey.  Burial in the state cemetery requires proof of New Jersey residency.

Discharge Papers (DD214)

A copy of the Veteran’s DD214 Discharge papers will be necessary in order to file for any Veterans Benefits.  This is a crucial part of preparing in advance, as obtaining them from the Veteran’s Administration can take weeks.
