Obituary of John Frank Romanick

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Frank Romanick, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on May 18th, surrounded by his loving family. Memorial Visitation and Service with Military Honors will be held on Sunday, June 26th, from 3-6 pm with the service scheduled at 5pm at the Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, in Denville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations in his name by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org to honor the work of his daughter Ann Marie Majestic and the nursing staff at the St. Barnabas Burn Center, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ 07052. The Romanick Family is deeply thankful for the care he received while in their care. Born in the Bronx, New York City, in 1929, John was a child of the Great Depression which profoundly shaped his childhood and life-long values. Always academic and hardworking, he went on to graduate from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now the NYU Tandon School of Engineering) where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (B.S.C.H.E.) with honors, in 1950. Following college, John served in the US Army Chemical Corps at Fort Detrick, MD, for two years during the Korean War where he studied chemical and biological warfare and its consequences. Following his service, John married Marion Paurowski in 1957. They settled in Denville nearly 50 years ago where they raised their two daughters and welcomed their four grandchildren and their great grandson. John had a very successful career which spanned 49 years working in natural and synthetic polymer chemistry. He helped shape research and development for the 3M Corporation, PPG Industries, Unilever, and the National Starch and Chemical Company. John enjoyed travel and spoke often of his trips abroad for work and pleasure. Marion remained the love of his life and he shared memories of their time together often. He truly loved his family and friends speaking frequently about the kindness of his neighbors and his “adopted” grandsons, Matthew and Vincent Grasso. John is predeceased by his brother Theodore Romanick; and leaves only happy memories to daughters Ann Marie Majestic (Guy) and Donna Romanick (Robert Rebholz); grandchildren, Jessica Vnuczenski (Paul), Gregory Majestic (Corrie), Ian and Chance Rebholz; great grandsons Keegan Joseph and Dylan John Vnuczenski and many more loving relatives and dear friends. He will be remembered as an avid reader and student of history who truly loved learning. He was a great storyteller with a sharp sense of humor; and, who most of all, enjoyed making people laugh. We will miss him so very much.
