Obituary of Dennis J. Vandermark

Please share a memory of Dennis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dennis John Vandermark passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at The Fireman's Home in Boonton, NJ at 83 years young. His love, passion and commitment to life and family will be greatly missed. He was born in Dover, NJ to Jacob and Anna Vandermark (Stokes). Growing up he was an outstanding athlete; especially recognized for football and baseball. He served his country in the National Guard and was a dedicated member of the Hibernia Fire Company No.1. While attending college he found his love for truck driving. Dennis assisted his father with Vandermark's Dairy and found a new passion for entrepreneurship. He established the family-run business of Metro Supply & Service Inc. Dennis was dedicated to working hard, making sure his family was taken care of and happy. You could find Dennis camping with family & friends, hunting in Maine, finding things to do in his yard or others, or just cruising around enjoying his Sunday afternoon. After more than 45 years of devotion to Metro and his customers, he made the most of his retirement with his wife, Sandra; traveling around the country on different cruises. Above all he had the softest spot in his heart for his grandchildren. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves happy memories to his beloved wife of 56 years, Sandra Vandermark (Casey); loving children Linda Szollosy (Butch), Carrie Hayes (Mike) and John Vandermark (Michele); adored 9 grandchildren; cherished 5 great-grandchildren; caring sister Joanne Hamill; dear brother-in-law Robert Casey (Paula) and many nieces and nephews. Friends and Family may pay their respects on Saturday, July 7th from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ. A service to share memories will begin at 5:30 p.m. Donations in Dennis's memory are being made to the good works of the New Jersey Firemen's Home by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org. Please keep the family in your prayers and leave a condolence.
