Aunt Jo loved ice cream and loved to share what she loved. Some of my earliest memories of Aunt Jo are of her scooping generous helpings of ice cream into bowls. I was wide-eyed to see large colorful mounds of this delicious treat being handed to me. What started as an early awareness of Aunt Jo’s love of ice cream and her desire to serve large portions later translated into an understanding of her love for life and her generous spirit.
Those qualities seemed to stay with her for life. She was always upbeat and brimming with good nature. She easily lightened the mood in a room and made mirth of follies. The last time I saw her in her home in New Jersey about 6 years ago, she again (of course) served ice cream. With her faithful sister, friend and companion (Lee) at her side, Aunt Jo scooped the mounds while Aunt Lee held the receiving bowl. And there they were: the huge gleaming mounds overshadowing the edges of the bowl. The size hadn’t diminished one iota from my first bowl in childhood. No skimping for Aunt Jo when it came to what she loved. I am so lucky to have been served! Sending condolences & love - Lin
