Obituary of John Richard Moravek, Sr.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Richard Moravek Sr., who left this world on May 15, 2025, at the age of 75, peacefully at his home in Rockaway, surrounded by the love of his family.

John was a graduate of Irvington High School and ran the family business, Moravek & Sons Roofing & General Contracting, alongside his father Otto. He also served at the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, where his commitment to public service and his strong work ethic earned him the respect of all who knew him.

John found joy from the simple pleasures of life, whether he was fishing, fixing things, with his dogs or spending time with his family. His heart was always generous, ready to help anyone in need.

John is survived by his devoted wife Margaret Moravek of 54 years, his loving children Michelle (Ben), Valerie (Anthony) and John Jr., his adored grandsons Joseph and Anthony and dear siblings Ed Moravek, Alina Fragoulis, and Otto J. Moravek and beloved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family on Tuesday, May 20th, from 4-8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ. A cemetery service will be held on Wednesday, May 21st at 11 am in the chapel at Restland Memorial Park, 77 DeForest Avenue, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
