Obituary of Rose Errante

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rose Spallina Errante, 98, of Boonton passed away on April 4.

Rose was born in Passaic in 1920 of immigrant parents from Sicily.  She was the first in her family to go to college, an extraordinary accomplishment in her day, when very few women of her generation went to college. She graduated from the College of St Elizabeth in ’41 and taught at St Cecilia’s Academy in Washington DC, Wallington Middle School, and Nutley HS.  She lived in Clifton and later moved to Boonton where she worked for the Boonton Bd of Ed Child Study Team as a Bedside Tutor. Additionally, she was a travel agent for Orbis travel in Lincoln Park.  An avid cook and traveler, she enjoyed many trips throughout the US and Europe, especially to Italy to visit relatives.

After retirement, she volunteered as a Financial Consultant for seniors at the Montville Senior Center and Picatinny Arsenal.  She also served 25years with the NJ-AARP tax volunteers in Lincoln Park.  She did countless tax returns for friends and neighbors making sure everyone got all benefits they were entitled to.

Predeceased by husband Bill, sister Josephine Picariello of Pompton Lakes, and brother Joseph Spallina of Clifton; she is survived by a sister Frances Spallina of Clifton,  son Joseph, son Peter and wife Michele, and 3 grandchildren Anthony, Nicolas, and Lauren of Rockaway Twp.

Visitation Monday April 9th from 9-11am Norman Dean Funeral Home, 16 Righter Ave Denville, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Boonton. Please leave a condolence and special memory for her family.
