Obituary of Virginia Ann Mini

Please share a memory of Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Virginia Ann Mini, 80, died on January 25 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.  She shared 80 years of love with all who knew her.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 29th at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Ave., Denville.  Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.  Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 5-8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave. Denville.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Our Lady Queen of Peace, a parish that does much to help the less fortunate,  209 Rt. 206 / Branchville, NJ 07826 or by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.

Known as ‘Ginny’ by her family and friends, she was born in Jersey City in 1937 to Harold Durr and Beulah Wainwright Durr. As a young child, her family spent summers in the rustic cabins that once dotted Cooks Lake in Denville.  They later moved to Denville when Ginny was seven years old.  She attended the Main Street School and later graduated from Morris Hill H.S.  She loved playing sports, and especially excelled at basketball.

In 1959, she married Anthony Mini.  They moved to a home that overlooked her beloved Cooks Lake.  She worked for many years as a secretary for Reaction Motors and Imperial Office Equipment before retiring in 1997.  In 2000, she and Anthony moved to Augusta, NJ.  When living in Denville, Ginny was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church.  After moving to Sussex County, she and Anthony became members of Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Branchville.

Ginny treasured her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed many summers with her extended family on the beaches of North Wildwood.  On most Sunday afternoons, she could be found preparing an outstanding Italian meal for whomever could make it home.  She was a crossword puzzle enthusiast and embraced the simple pleasures of family life; a quiet walk around the lake, watching the summer sun set over the mountains, playing Monopoly with her grandchildren, a rousing game of whiffle ball on the beach, and active involvement in all family occasions.

Ginny was a quiet, gentle and beautiful soul whose bountiful kindness and compassion impacted many.   Unceasingly kind, patient and welcoming, anyone fortunate enough to spend some time with Ginny always came away a better person.

Her graceful spirit and memory will endure with her family, which included her devoted husband of 59 years, Anthony; son Robert, his wife Dawn, and their children Brett (deceased), Erin and Sloane; daughter Jennifer Monk, her husband Michael, and their children Christopher and fiancé Viri, Michele, and Daniel; sister Priscilla, her husband, Jack and their children; and dedicated care giver Angela Filosa and her family.  The family would like to acknowledge the support over the years of From the Heart Elder Care of Vernon, NJ.
