Obituary of Richard H. Hepper

Richard "Dick" Hepper of Indian Lake in Denville, age ninety two, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, surrounded by family members. Dick was born in 1925 in Jersey City where he lived until 1943 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific where he was among the troops that landed on Okinawa. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to New Jersey where he met and married his beloved wife of fifty nine years, Joan Powell Hepper. The couple lived in Denville where they raised their family in the house where Joan grew up. Dick spent the first part of his career as a tool and die maker and later worked as a pipe fitter at Picatinny Arsenal where he retired in 1988. Dick will be most remembered as an avid fly fisherman and active member of the Hacklebarney Chapter of Trout Unlimited. In addition to enjoying fishing itself, he gave tirelessly to the community by teaching fly tying, assisting in Trout in the Classroom, and working with wounded veterans through Healing Waters. Dick is predeceased by his wife Joan and his son-in-law, Mark Winebrenner, He is survived by his brother Bill and wife Lyn of River Vale, sister-in-law Audrey Packer of Denville, daughter Nancy Winebrenner of Nanticoke Maryland, son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Hilary Hepper of Longmeadow Massachusetts, three grandsons Matt Winebrenner and Greg and Michael Hepper and his adopted Iranian family. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., with a Memorial service to commence at 12:30, at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ www.normandean.com. Interment will follow at Denville Cemetery.
