Obituary of Joseph S. Roman

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph S. “JR” Roman passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Lincoln Park Care Center in Lincoln Park, NJ. He was 79 years young. Born in Throop, PA, Joseph was raised in Olyphant, PA. That is where he graduated High School and met his soulmate and love of his life, Madeline Warholak. They graduated in 1955 and were married in 1958. Prior to marriage, Joseph lived in Orange, NJ and he would travel back to Olyphant, PA to see his love every weekend. Once they wed, Madeline came to NJ to settle down and start their family in their 5 family home that they owned. Their son, Scott was born in 1961 and in 1963, they all relocated to West Orange in a house built by Joseph. In 1975, they moved to Montville, in the Lake Valhalla Section, where they still own a home, even though the majority of their time after 1990 was spent in their home in the Hutchinson Island Section of Jensen Beach, FL. Joseph was the true definition of a hard worker. Starting at the young age of 10, he has been supporting his family. His first job was delivering newspapers and helping the milkman, requiring him to wake up at 4 am. That set the foundation for his life as a dedicated achiever. He has had many careers including working as a Realtor and for Otis Elevator Company. Because of his outstanding performance at Otis, he became an employee at Smith Steel in Plainfield in 1967. Ultimately, that career choice led to an employment opportunity at AMP Fabricators, which led to his final career as an Owner and Operator of Sperro Metal Products in Montville, which he retired from in 2002 after 40 years of committed service to the company. He truly had a brilliant mind and was an amazing entrepreneur. Compassionate, caring, athletic, smart, devoted, charismatic, loyal, wonderful, and loving are just some of the traits Joseph can be described as. He was phenomenal beyond words, as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. Growing up, he enjoyed playing baseball and he was so valuable at it, he was offered to try out for the professional team, Boston Braves, which he turned down in order to work to support his family. He was also very talented at tennis, softball, and volleyball, to name a few. Above everything else in his life, family was the most important. He adored spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He took the entire family on a vacation to Hawaii and took each grandchild separately on their own vacation to Europe, depending on what they were interested in. He was beyond special and will be forever remembered in our hearts and souls for eternity. He was predeceased by his adored son, Scott Roman in 2007 and his brother, Ron Roman in 2002. Left to keep his legacy alive is his beloved wife of 58 years, Madeline; his loving daughter-in-law, Andrea Roman; his cherished grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, Nicholas, and William Roman; his adored brother, Stephen (the late Virginia) Roman; his caring sister-in-law, Lorraine Roman; his worshiped grandpups, Frankie and Zoey; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Memorial Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 23rd from 12 - 4 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ 07834. Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, April 24th at 11 am at St. Pius X Church, 24 Changebridge Rd, Montville, NJ 07045.Please leave a condolence and special memory for his family.
