Obituary of Donald J. Griffith

Denville – Donald J. Griffith, a long-time resident of Indian Lake, died Wednesday the 10th of August at Merry Heart of Boonton Township. Born March 22, 1930 in Bismarck, ND to Donald E. and Ann M. (Jochim) Griffith. The family moved back to his father's native Morristown, NJ where he spent the majority of his youth. Donald graduated from Morristown High School in 1947 and promptly entered the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean War until 1953. Upon return to Morristown, he met his future wife of over 59 years, Joan, and started work with NJ Bell as a lineman, retiring as an assistant manager in 1985 after 30 years of service. Subsequently, he worked at Griffith-Prideaux Insurors until approximately 1990 and part-time for Norman Dean's Funeral Home after that. He became an active member of his beloved Indian Lake Community Club after moving there in 1961, serving as a trustee for 30 years. He was an exempt fireman of the Denville Fire Dept., serving for 19 years. He is predeceased by his brother and best friend Bobby. Survivors include: his wife Joan (Davitt) Griffith; his two daughters Lisa MacGray of Rockaway and Amy Colley and her husband Steve of Tunkhannock, PA ; his son, John Griffith also of Tunkhannock; his three grandsons, Benjamin MacGray and his wife Janeen, Gavin and Josh Colley; his sister, Nancy Huber and her husband Walter; his sister-in-law, Barbara France; and his many treasured nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Indian Lake Community Clubhouse, 93 E. Shore Rd. in Denville on Saturday, August 27th from 3 PM to 6 PM. Donations can be made to the Michael J.
